Preparations
Preparing a Shower Pan
Preparing a basic shower pan can be easy and simple.  There's various
ways of doing so. These are the best way to prepare a shower pan.
The first step would be to have the proper drain, this would be the hot
mop drain. The drain you see here is a two piece. These are non
adjustable .
There is also a three piece drain, those drains can be adjusted to the
desire height of the mud or dry pack "tile man terms that is" . There are
also trough drains, those are custom drains.
By code the drains should have a minimum of two inches of clearance
from the top of the strainer of the drain to the height of the dam or curb
"entrance of the shower dare wood".
Next would be the blocking that are around the shower walls, as you can
see in this picture.  The purpose of the backing is to straighten the
shower walls and to protect the shower pan from being damage from
construction traffic . The minimum height  of the blocking would be 8
inches, because the paper would fold up 8 to 9 inches and a minimum of 4
inches on the seat or bench.
Next will be the height of the dam. Like i said before there should be a
clearance from the top of the strainer of the drain to the height of the
dam or curb "entrance of the shower dare wood". The flange of the
drains, the widest part of the drain should be flush to the floor of the
shower pans and level. Normally the dam or curb will have three peaces
of 2X4 in length
